Day 13: “Rather”

Poetry

he taught me to be human.

blood and veins would make me sane

or so the truth was laid

but roads were paved

over and again

’til truth was buried dead.

his wake I became

stumbling ‘long in shadows

of the dullest blacks

I’ve held to gaze.

he’d reach to me

from time to withered time

but never would we touch

for he dared not slow and

I, no speed outstanding.

through jaded travels

I spared the sense to wonder

the worth of breath and bones

and whether once of touch

in place of none

is surely what I’d rather.
